Classic Tiramisu Recipe

Tiramisu is a popular Italian dessert that’s both creamy and delicious. It’s made by layering coffee-soaked ladyfingers (a type of light, sweet sponge cake) with a rich filling. The filling is a smooth mix of egg yolks, sugar, mascarpone cheese (a creamy cheese), and whipped cream. To finish, the dessert is dusted with cocoa powder. This dessert is chilled for a few hours to blend the flavors together, making it a cool, refreshing treat.

Directions

Prepare the Coffee Soak:

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the espresso powder and sugar in warm water. Stir in the coffee liqueur. Set aside to cool.

Make the Creamy Filling:

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until the mixture is pale and thick.
  2. Add the mascarpone cheese to the yolk mixture and beat until smooth and well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until just combined, ensuring not to deflate the mixture.

Assemble the Tiramisu:

  1. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee soak, ensuring they are moist but not soggy.
  2. Arrange a layer of soaked ladyfingers at the bottom of your 9×7 inch dish.
  3. Spread half of the creamy filling over the ladyfingers.
  4. Add another layer of soaked ladyfingers, followed by the remaining creamy filling.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. Before serving, dust the top generously with unsweetened cocoa powder.

Enjoy your beautifully layered, homemade classic Tiramisu, perfect for any occasion!
