Crock Pot Chicken and Dumplings Recipe

This comforting Crock Pot Chicken and Dumplings recipe is the perfect easy-to-make dinner that cooks itself. With tender chicken, creamy soup, and soft dumplings made from refrigerated biscuits, it’s a hearty meal for any day of the week.

  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of celery soup
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of chicken soup
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 4 skinless boneless chicken breasts
  • 2 cups low sodium chicken broth
  • 2 cups frozen vegetables or peas and carrots, defrosted
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuits (8 pieces), Buttermilk, Country, or Homestyle

  1. Prepare the Crock Pot:
    • Place the diced onion at the bottom of the Crock Pot.
  2. Add the Soups and Seasonings:
    • In the Crock Pot, mix the cream of celery soup and cream of chicken soup. Stir in the fresh parsley, poultry seasoning, and black pepper.
  3. Add the Chicken:
    • Place the chicken breasts on top of the soup mixture. Pour the chicken broth over the chicken.
  4. Cook:
    • Cover and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours or on high for 3 hours. The chicken should be cooked through and tender.
  5. Shred the Chicken:
    • Once cooked, remove the chicken breasts from the Crock Pot and shred them using two forks. Return the shredded chicken to the Crock Pot.
  6. Add Vegetables:
    • Stir in the defrosted vegetables into the Crock Pot and mix well.
  7. Prepare the Dumplings:
    • Take each biscuit and tear it into 4 pieces. Roll each piece into a ball or simply flatten slightly and drop into the Crock Pot. Stir gently to mix the dumplings into the soup.
  8. Finish Cooking:
    • Cover and cook on high for another hour or until the dumplings are cooked through and fluffy.

  • Thickness Adjustment: If the soup is too thick, add more chicken broth to achieve your desired consistency.
  • Biscuit Alternatives: If you prefer homemade dumplings, you can make a simple dough from flour, baking powder, salt, milk, and butter instead of using refrigerated biscuits.
  • Herb Variations: Consider adding thyme or rosemary for additional flavor.
