This Baked Cod in Cream Sauce is a rich and comforting dish perfect for a hearty dinner. The tender cod fillets are baked to perfection and topped with a creamy, cheesy sauce that enhances their delicate flavor.

Ingredients

Cod Fillets

  • 6 cod fillets
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher salt, or to taste
  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup seasoned breadcrumbs

Cream Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 cups whipping cream (or half and half)
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, grated
  • Kosher salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat the Oven: Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) to warm up. Lightly grease a baking dish large enough to hold the cod fillets in a single layer.
  1. Prepare the Cod Fillets
  • Blot the cod fillets with paper towels to remove excess moisture, then arrange them in the prepared baking dish.
  • Season the fillets with Kosher salt.
  • Mix the melted butter and minced garlic in a small bowl. Brush the mixture evenly over the fillets.
  • Sprinkle the seasoned breadcrumbs over the fillets, ensuring they are evenly coated.
  1. Bake the Cod: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cod is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
  1. Prepare the Cream Sauce
  • In a medium-sized saucepan, heat the butter over medium heat until melted.
  • Stir in the cornstarch and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, to form a roux.
  • Gradually whisk in the whipping cream and milk. Keep whisking until the mixture starts to thicken.
  • Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and season with Kosher salt and black pepper to taste.
  • Reduce the heat and simmer for a few minutes until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  1. Combine and Serve
  • Once the cod is baked, remove it from the oven and pour the cream sauce over the fillets.
  • Put the baking dish back in the oven and cook for another 5-10 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and has a light golden hue.
  • Take it out of the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving.

Conclusion

This Baked Cod in Cream Sauce is a delicious and elegant dish that’s perfect for any occasion. The creamy sauce complements the tender cod fillets beautifully, creating a comforting meal that’s sure to impress. Serve with a side of steamed vegetables or a fresh salad for a complete dinner. Enjoy!
