These Crispy and Chewy Rice Paper Samosas are a delicious and gluten-free twist on the traditional samosa. Filled with a flavorful mixture of potatoes, vegetables, and spices, and served with a sweet chili dipping sauce, they make a perfect appetizer or snack.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons Kikkoman® Sesame Oil, divided
  • 1 cup of finely chopped russet potato, peeled
  • 1/2 cup white onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup red bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/2 cup cilantro, chopped
  • 1/2 cup peas
  • 4 rice paper sheets
  • 1/2 cup Kikkoman® Gluten-Free Sweet Chili Sauce, for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling:
  • Heat 1 tablespoon of Kikkoman® Sesame Oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped potato and cook for 5-7 minutes, until slightly softened.
  • Toss the finely diced onion and red bell pepper into the skillet.
  • Cook for another 3-4 minutes, until the vegetables are tender.
  • Stir in the minced garlic, ground cumin, ground turmeric, and sea salt. Cook for 1-2 minutes, until the spices are fragrant.
  • Add the chopped cilantro and peas, stirring to combine. Cook for another 2 minutes, until the peas are heated through.
  1. Prepare the Rice Paper:
  • Fill a shallow dish with warm water. Submerge a rice paper sheet in water for 10-15 seconds, or until it becomes pliable.
  • Carefully lay the softened rice paper sheet on a clean, flat surface.
  1. Fill and Fold the Samosas:
  • Place about 2 tablespoons of the filling mixture in the center of the rice paper sheet.
  • Fold the sides of the rice paper over the filling, then fold the bottom up and roll to form a neat packet, ensuring the filling is completely enclosed.
  1. Cook the Samosas:
  • Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of Kikkoman® Sesame Oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Carefully place the samosas in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, until they are golden brown and crispy.
  1. Serve:
  • Remove the samosas from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
  • Serve the crispy and chewy rice paper samosas warm, with Kikkoman® Gluten-Free Sweet Chili Sauce for dipping.

Conclusion:

These Crispy and Chewy Rice Paper Samosas are a delightful and unique take on a classic snack. The combination of a flavorful filling and the crispy rice paper wrapper, served with a sweet chili dipping sauce, makes for a delicious appetizer or snack that everyone will love. Enjoy!
