Ingredients

For the Dressing:

  • 1 shallot peeled and roughly chopped
  • 3 tablespoons fresh ginger roughly chopped
  • 1 clove garlic
  • ¼ cup white miso paste
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon sesame oil
  • cup oil vegetable or any neutral oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey or agave

For the Steak Bites:

  • 1 lb steak such as sirloin, ribeye, or filet, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon oil for cooking
  • For an optional topping consider using sesame seeds, sliced green onions, or fresh cilantro.

Instructions

Make the Miso Ginger Dressing:

  • In a blender or food processor, combine the shallot, fresh ginger, garlic, white miso paste, rice wine vinegar, and sesame oil.
  • Blend until smooth, then slowly add in the oil while continuing to blend until emulsified and creamy.
  • Stir in the honey or agave, and adjust the taste with additional salt, if needed. Set aside.

Prepare the Steak Bites:

  • Pat the steak pieces dry with paper towels to ensure a good sear.
  • Heat a large skillet or cast-iron pan over medium-high heat.
  • Add the steak bites to the pan, making sure not to overcrowd them, and sear on each side for 1-2 minutes until browned and cooked to your desired doneness (about 4-6 minutes total for medium-rare).
  • Remove the steak bites from the pan and let them rest for a few minutes.

Serve:

  • Drizzle the miso ginger dressing generously over the steak bites.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds, chopped green onions, or cilantro for extra flavor and color, if desired.
  • Serve the steak bites on their own as an appetizer, or pair them with rice or vegetables for a full meal.
