- 1 medium head of cabbage chopped
- 1 pound 450 g of smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced
- 1 medium onion diced
- 3 cloves of garlic minced
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil or butter
- 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
- ½ teaspoon of black pepper
- 1 teaspoon of salt to be adjusted as needed
- ¼ teaspoon of crushed red pepper optional, for added heat
- 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar optional, for a tangy flavor
Step 1: Prepare the Ingredients
Step 2: Sauté the Sausage
In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil or butter over medium heat.
Incorporate the sausage slices into the pan and sauté for 4-5 minutes, or until they are golden brown and have crispy edges.
Take the sausage out of the skillet and place it aside.
Step 3: Cook the Cabbage and Vegetables
In the same pan, incorporate the leftover tablespoon of olive oil or butter.
Toss in the diced onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened.
Toss in the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds until it releases its aroma.
Stir in the chopped cabbage and cook for 7-8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage wilts and starts to caramelize.
Step 4: Season and Combine
Dust the cabbage mixture with smoked paprika, black pepper, and salt. If you prefer some heat, include the red pepper flakes.
Return the sausage to the skillet and mix everything well.
Continue cooking for an extra 3-4 minutes to let the flavors meld together.
If desired, stir in the apple cider vinegar at the end for a slight tangy kick.
