- 10- ounce package shredded green cabbage 5 cups
- 1 russet potato peeled and cut into 1/2-inch pieces
- 5 strips bacon
- 5 cloves garlic minced
- 1/4 teaspoon table salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Prepare the Bacon: In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and place it on a plate lined with paper towels to drain. Reserve about 2 tablespoons of the bacon grease in the skillet for cooking.
Cook the Potatoes: Add the diced potatoes to the skillet with the reserved bacon grease. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for about 8-10 minutes, or until the potatoes are golden brown and tender. Remove the potatoes and set them aside.
Sauté the Cabbage: In the same skillet, add the shredded cabbage. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage begins to soften and develop a slight golden color.
Add Garlic and Seasoning: Stir in the minced garlic, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, allowing the garlic to become fragrant.
Combine Everything: Return the cooked potatoes to the skillet and crumble the bacon into bite-sized pieces. Gently toss everything together and cook for 2-3 more minutes to ensure the flavors meld.
Serve: Serve the dish warm as a side or a main course. Garnish with additional black pepper, if desired.
