Ingredients

For the Sausage Balls:

  • 2 cups baking mix such as Bisquick
  • 1 pound ground sausage
  • 4 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper

For the Dip:

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon mustard yellow or Dijon

Instructions

Preheat the Oven:

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.

Mix the Sausage Balls:

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the baking mix, ground sausage, shredded cheddar cheese, and black pepper.
  • Using your hands or a sturdy spoon, mix everything together until well combined.
  • It may take some time for the ingredients to fully incorporate, but you want to ensure the sausage and cheese are evenly distributed.

Form the Balls:

  • Roll the sausage mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Make sure to leave a little space between each ball so they cook evenly.

Bake the Sausage Balls:

  • Place in the oven and cook for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the sausage balls are beautifully browned and cooked through, ensuring a deliciously crisp exterior.
  • You may want to rotate the baking sheet halfway through to ensure even cooking.
  • After baking, take them out of the oven and let them rest for a few moments to cool down before presenting them for serving.

Make the Dip:

  • While the sausage balls are baking, whisk together the mayonnaise and mustard in a small bowl.
  • Taste and adjust the mustard to your preference.

Serve:

  • Serve the sausage balls warm, with the mustard-mayo dip on the side for dipping.
