For the Buns

  • 4 pieces Pretzel Buns Brioche or whole wheat buns can be alternatives.

Instructions

Step-by-Step Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chicken, salt, black pepper, maple syrup, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and paprika. Gently mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
  • Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty about ¾ inch thick, pressing a thumb indent in the center.
  • Preheat your grill or skillet to medium heat. Place the chicken patties onto the grill and cook for 5–6 minutes on each side, ensuring the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  • In the last minute of cooking, top each patty with a slice of Swiss cheese and cover to melt.
  • Toast the pretzel buns until golden brown while the cheese is melting.
  • To assemble, place a cheesed patty on the bottom half of a toasted pretzel bun. Top with sauerkraut and crispy fried onions.

Notes

Avoid overmixing the chicken to keep patties tender. Always press a thumb indent in the center to prevent puffing.
