- 2 cups water
- 2 cups milk dairy or plant-based
- 4 cinnamon sticks or 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 4 vanilla beans split and scraped (or 4 tsp vanilla extract)
- 2 star anises optional
- 4 tsp loose-leaf black tea or 4 black tea bags, optional
- Honey or other sweetener of choice sugar or sugar substitute
Prepare the Spiced Base: In a medium saucepan, combine water, cinnamon sticks, vanilla beans (or extract), and star anises. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, allowing the spices to infuse for about 5 minutes.
Add the Tea: Stir in the loose-leaf black tea or tea bags. Reduce the heat and let it steep for 3–5 minutes, depending on your desired tea strength. Remove the tea bags or strain out the loose leaves.
Incorporate the Milk: Add the milk to the saucepan and stir. Heat gently until warm, but do not boil.
Sweeten the Tea: Stir in honey or your preferred sweetener to taste. Adjust sweetness based on preference.
Cool the Mixture: Let the tea cool to room temperature, then transfer it to the refrigerator to chill for at least 1 hour.
Serve: Fill glasses with ice and pour the chilled milk tea over the top. Garnish with a cinnamon stick or a sprinkle of ground cinnamon if desired.
