For the Biscuits:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper optional, for a little heat
- 1 cup buttermilk
- ½ cup unsalted butter melted
- 1 ½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
For the Topping:
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
Prepare the Biscuit Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, kosher salt, and cayenne pepper (if using).
Pour in the melted butter and buttermilk, and stir just until combined.
Take care not to mix too much, as this can lead to tough biscuits.
Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Form the Biscuits:
Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop large spoonfuls of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between each one.
The dough will be slightly sticky, so don’t worry about forming perfect shapes.
Prepare the Garlic Butter Topping:
While the biscuits are baking, mix together the melted butter, chopped parsley, and garlic powder for the topping.
