For the Dip

  • 2 tablespoons Butter Can substitute with olive oil for dairy-free.
  • 3-4 medium Onions (thinly sliced) Use yellow or sweet onions for best results.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Adjust based on personal preference.
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar Optional based on sweetness preference.
  • 1/4 cup Dry White Wine Can substitute with vegetable broth for a non-alcoholic option.
  • 8 ounces Cream Cheese (softened) Ensure it’s at room temperature for easy mixing.
  • 1/2 cup Sour Cream Greek yogurt can be used as a healthier alternative.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce or Soy Sauce Choose based on dietary needs (soy sauce is gluten-free).
  • 1 tablespoon Minced Parsley Other herbs like chives or green onions can also be used.
  • 1-2 cloves Garlic (optional) Use fresh grated for intensity.

Instructions

Step-by-Step Instructions

  • Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over low heat until fully melted and bubbling.
  • Add 3-4 thinly sliced onions, a pinch of salt, and a teaspoon of sugar; stir to coat. Cook on low for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
  • Pour in 1/4 cup of dry white wine to deglaze the pan, scraping up browned bits. Simmer for about 5 minutes until the wine evaporates.
  • In a bowl, combine 8 ounces of softened cream cheese with 1/2 cup of sour cream; mix until smooth and creamy.
  • Fold in the caramelized onions, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, and 1 tablespoon of minced parsley. Add garlic if using.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning as needed, adding more salt or soy sauce for depth.
  • Serve the dip in a bowl, warm or cold, alongside tortilla chips, crusty bread, or fresh vegetables. Enjoy!

Notes

For best results, prepare the dip a day in advance to allow flavors to meld. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for longer storage.
