- 1 pizza dough with a thin crust either pre-made or crafted from scratch.
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ cup cheddar cheese
- ½ cup diced onions
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- ½ cup sliced bell peppers
- ½ cup sliced black olives optional
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare a baking sheet by either lining it with parchment paper or applying a light coat of grease.
Cook the ground beef and onions: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the diced onions and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened. Add the ground beef and minced garlic, breaking up the beef as it cooks. Season with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Sauté until the beef is completely browned and devoid of any pink color, taking approximately 5 to 7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if needed.
Add the vegetables: Stir in the sliced bell peppers and black olives (if using), cooking for another 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are slightly softened but still crisp.
Roll out the dough: On a floured surface, roll out the thin pizza dough into a rectangle, approximately 12x16 inches.
Assemble the garbage bread: Spread the cooked beef and vegetable mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
Roll and seal the dough: Carefully roll the dough into a log, starting from one of the longer edges, tucking in the sides as you go. Pinch the seams to seal the edges and place the rolled dough seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake the garbage bread: Bake the bread in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and crispy.
Cool, slice, and serve: Once baked, let the bread cool for a few minutes before slicing it into pieces. Serve hot, and enjoy the cheesy, savory goodness of Golden Garbage Bread!
