- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
- 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter, melted
Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C). Drizzle the melted butter into an 8x8-inch baking dish, making sure it covers the bottom evenly.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
Add the buttermilk to the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined. The dough will be dense and sticky—be careful not to mix it too much.
Transfer the dough to the prepared baking dish with the melted butter. Use a spatula to press the dough into an even layer, allowing some butter to rise over the top.
Score the dough into nine squares with a knife for easy cutting after baking.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and the edges are crisp.
Cool slightly before slicing and serving warm. Enjoy plain, or with honey, jam, or butter.
