Ingredients
  

For the Meat Filling:

  • 2 cups 500 mL of fresh homemade marinara sauce
  • 2 pounds 1 kg ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • Freshly ground pepper and salt to taste

For the Spinach Filling:

  • 1 liter cottage cheese
  • 1 package of frozen chopped spinach defrosted and thoroughly drained
  • 4 eggs
  • Freshly ground pepper to taste

For Assembling:

  • ½ cup homemade tomato sauce
  • 650 g mozzarella cheese sliced
  • 16 lasagna noodles cooked

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Meat Filling: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, about 8-10 minutes. Incorporate the minced garlic and sauté for another 1 to 2 minutes until it becomes aromatic. Stir in 2 cups of homemade tomato sauce. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper. Set aside.
  • Prepare the Spinach Filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cottage cheese, well-drained chopped spinach, and 4 eggs. Mix until smooth and well blended. Add freshly ground pepper to taste. Set aside.
  • Assemble the Lasagna: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).In a large baking dish, spread ½ cup of homemade tomato sauce evenly at the bottom. Layer 4 cooked lasagna noodles across the base. Spread half of the spinach filling on top of the noodles, followed by a layer of the meat filling, then a third of the mozzarella cheese slices. Repeat the layers (noodles, spinach, meat, cheese). Finish with a final layer of noodles and top with the remaining mozzarella cheese.
  • Bake: Cover the lasagna with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking for another 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  • Serve: Tent the lasagna with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. After baking, allow it to rest for 10 minutes before cutting into portions and serving. Enjoy this cozy Canadian take on a classic dish!
