Description

Transform simple broccoli florets into a crispy, flavor-packed snack with Vegan Spicy Glazed Popcorn Broccoli. Baked to golden perfection and coated in a sweet and spicy glaze, this plant-based recipe is perfect as a snack, appetizer, or even a unique side dish.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Popcorn Broccoli:

  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • One cup of non-dairy milk (such as almond milk, for a creamy texture.)
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

For the Spicy Glaze:

  • 1 tablespoon chili paste
  • 1/4 cup agave syrup
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup (organic recommended)
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine vinegar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Broccoli Coating: In a bowl, combine the non-dairy milk, apple cider vinegar, and hot sauce. Let sit for a minute to create a buttermilk-like mixture. In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, panko bread crumbs, corn starch, baking soda, garlic powder, and salt.
  2. Coat the Broccoli: Dip each broccoli floret into the milk mixture, then dredge it in the flour mixture, coating thoroughly. Set the coated broccoli florets aside on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake the Broccoli: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Arrange the coated broccoli florets in a single layer on the sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden and crispy, flipping halfway through for even baking.
  4. Prepare the Spicy Glaze: While the broccoli bakes, mix the chili paste, agave syrup, ketchup, soy sauce, and rice wine vinegar in a small saucepan. Warm the mixture over medium-low heat until it becomes slightly thickened and reaches a pleasant temperature, about 3 to 5 minutes.
  5. Toss and Serve: Once the broccoli is crispy, remove it from the oven and place it in a large bowl. Pour the spicy glaze over the broccoli and toss to coat evenly. Serve right away, adding a sprinkle of sesame seeds or chopped green onions for garnish if you wish. Enjoy as a snack, appetizer, or side!

Notes

  • Gluten-Free Option: Substitute all-purpose flour and panko bread crumbs with gluten-free alternatives.
  • Adjust the Spice: Reduce chili paste or add extra agave syrup for a milder flavor.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for best results.
  • Serving Suggestion: Pair with vegan ranch or sriracha mayo for dipping.
