Description

This Tzatziki Sauce is a cool, creamy, and refreshing Mediterranean dip made with Greek yogurt, fresh cucumber, garlic, and dill. It’s perfect as a dip for pita bread, a sauce for gyros, or a topping for grilled meats. This quick and easy homemade recipe is bursting with authentic Greek flavors and takes just 10 minutes to prepare!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 medium cucumber, peeled, seeds removed, and cut into small chunks
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped onion
  • ¾ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • ¾ cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 small clove garlic, grated
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1½ teaspoons chopped fresh dill

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cucumber:
    • Peel the cucumber, slice it in half, and remove the seeds.
    • Chop it into small chunks and sprinkle with kosher salt.
    • Place in a strainer and let it sit for 10 minutes to remove excess moisture.
    • Pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. Mix the Ingredients:
    • In a medium bowl, combine Greek yogurt, sour cream, and mayonnaise.
    • Add grated garlic, garlic powder, finely chopped onion, and fresh dill.
    • Stir until smooth and well combined.
  3. Fold in the Cucumber:
    • Add the drained cucumber to the mixture and gently fold it in.
    • Taste and adjust the seasoning with more salt, garlic, or dill, if needed.
  4. Chill and Serve:
    • Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to blend.
    • Serve chilled as a dip, spread, or sauce.

Notes

  • Use full-fat Greek yogurt for a thicker, creamier texture.
  • For extra tanginess, add a squeeze of lemon juice or white vinegar.
  • Store in the fridge for up to 4 days in an airtight container.
  • Not freezer-friendly due to the yogurt and cucumber’s high water content.
  • Great for meal prep! Make it ahead of time to allow the flavors to develop.
