Description

Add a zesty twist to your avocado game with these Tangy Pickled Avocado Slices. Infused with a flavorful pickling brine, these creamy avocado wedges bring a refreshing tang and subtle heat, making them the perfect topping for tacos, salads, or toast. Quick to prepare and endlessly versatile, they’re a must-have for any avocado lover.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe avocados (halved, pitted, and cut into wedges.)
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 1 garlic clove (sliced)
  • ½ teaspoon crushed chili flakes (optional, for extra warmth.)
  • Fresh cilantro or parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Pickling Brine:

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the apple cider vinegar, water, sugar, salt, black peppercorns, garlic slices, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  2. Heat the mixture on medium, stirring frequently until the sugar and salt are fully dissolved, then allow it to simmer.
  3. Take it off the heat and let the brine cool down a bit.

Slice the Avocados:

  1. While the brine cools, peel, pit, and slice the avocados into thick, even slices. Be gentle to avoid bruising the avocado.

Pickle the Avocados:

  1. Place the avocado slices in a glass jar or airtight container.
  2. Pour the warm pickling brine over the avocados, ensuring they are fully submerged.
  3. Let the mixture cool to room temperature, then seal the jar and refrigerate for at least 1-2 hours before serving.
  4. For best results, let the avocados pickle for 24 hours to develop deeper flavor.

Garnish and Serve:

  1. Before serving, garnish with fresh cilantro or parsley for added color and flavor.
  2. These pickled avocados can be served chilled as a tangy addition to tacos, salads, toast, or any dish where you want a zesty, creamy bite.

Notes

  • Choose Ripe but Firm Avocados: Overripe avocados can become mushy in the brine, so opt for ones that are just ripe.
  • Use a Non-Reactive Container: Glass jars or ceramic containers are best for pickling.
  • Customize the Flavor: Add herbs like dill or spices like cumin to the brine for a unique twist.
  • Store Properly: Keep the pickled avocados refrigerated and consume them within 3–4 days for the best flavor and texture.
