The combination of garlic, red bell pepper, and soy sauce adds depth and balance to the dish, making it a delicious and satisfying option. Serve it over rice or noodles for a complete meal.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Stir-Fry

  • ½ tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seed oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into strips
  • ½ head of cabbage, shredded (about 4 cups)
  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • ½ tablespoon cornstarch
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • 2 green onions, sliced and divided

Instructions

  • Heat the Oil – In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil and sesame oil over medium-high heat.

  • Cook the Beef – Add the lean ground beef and cook for 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula until browned. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.

  • Add the Vegetables – Stir in the red bell pepper strips and shredded cabbage. Cook, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes, until the vegetables are slightly tender but still crisp.

  • Prepare the Sauce – In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, cornstarch, and water until smooth.

  • Combine and Cook – Pour the sauce into the skillet and stir well. Add red pepper flakes, black pepper, and salt to taste. Cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.

  • Add Green Onions – Stir in half of the sliced green onions, reserving the rest for garnish.

  • Serve – Transfer the stir-fry to a serving dish, garnish with the remaining green onions, and serve hot over rice or noodles.

Notes

  • For extra spice, add more red pepper flakes or a dash of sriracha.
  • For a gluten-free option, substitute soy sauce with tamari or coconut aminos.
  • For meal prep, store leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
  • To reheat, warm in a skillet over medium heat until hot.
