- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup 1 stick unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 1 cup 200g shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup cooked bacon (chopped)
- 1/4 cup chopped green onions
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat and Prepare
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C) and lightly grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.
Step 2: Incorporate the Butter
- Add the chilled butter cubes to the flour mixture.
- Employ a pastry blender or your hands to blend the butter into the flour until the mixture achieves a texture similar to rough crumbs.
Step 3: Add Cheese, Bacon, and Green Onions
- Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese, chopped bacon, and green onions into the flour mixture.
- Gently stir to distribute the ingredients evenly.
Step 4: Mix in Buttermilk
- Pour the buttermilk into the mixture and stir until a soft, cohesive dough forms.
- Take care not to mix too vigorously to ensure the bread remains soft and tender.
Step 5: Shape and Bake
- Transfer the dough to the prepared loaf pan and spread it evenly.
- Place in the oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center emerges clean and the surface is a golden hue.
Step 6: Cool and Serve
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before removing it.
- Slice into thick pieces and serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- Use Cold Butter: Cold butter ensures a flaky and tender crumb.
- Make It Your Own: Add herbs, spices, or extra bacon for a personalized touch.
