Ingredients
Scale
- 4 sausages
- 2 bowls of cooked rice (about ½ bowl per hotdog)
- Cheese slices or sticks (for stuffing)
- Dried seaweed (optional, for wrapping)
For the Sauce:
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- ⅔ tablespoon cooking wine (mirin)
- ⅔ tablespoon corn syrup (or honey)
Instructions
- Cook the Rice – Ensure the rice is freshly cooked and sticky so it holds together well. If using leftover rice, reheat it with a bit of water to regain its stickiness.
- Prepare the Sausages – If using cheese, slice the sausages lengthwise and insert a cheese stick. Leave whole if preferred.
- Shape the Rice – Take about ½ bowl of rice and flatten it into an even layer using plastic wrap or your hands.
- Wrap the Sausage – Place the sausage in the center and gently press the rice around it until fully covered. Optionally, wrap a thin strip of dried seaweed around it.
- Make the Sauce – In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, mirin, and corn syrup (or honey) for a sweet-savory glaze.
- Grill or Pan-Fry – Heat a non-stick frying pan or grill over medium heat and lightly oil it. Cook each side for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Brush with the sauce while grilling.
- Serve and Enjoy – Remove from heat, let cool slightly, and enjoy hot with extra sauce or your favorite toppings.
Notes
- Sticky rice works best to hold the shape.
- Press the rice firmly around the sausage to prevent it from falling apart.
- Brush with extra sauce while grilling for enhanced flavor.
- Air-frying option – Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway.
