Ingredients

Scale

For the Burgers:

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey (93/7%)
  • 1 apple, shredded
  • 4 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 4 whole wheat or gluten-free buns, toasted
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese

For the Maple Dijon Mustard:

  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup

Instructions

  • Prepare the Maple Dijon Mustard

    • In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of Dijon mustard and 1 tablespoon of maple syrup. Stir until smooth and set aside.
  • Make the Turkey Burger Patties

    • In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, shredded apple, sliced green onions, and 2 teaspoons of Dijon mustard.
    • Season with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.
    • Mix the ingredients gently until evenly combined. Divide the mixture into four portions and shape them into burger patties.
  • Cook the Turkey Burgers

    • Heat a grill or skillet to medium-high and lightly oil the surface to prevent sticking.
    • Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for 5-6 minutes per side, or until fully cooked with an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
    • During the last minute of cooking, add a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each patty and cover to melt.
  • Assemble the Burgers

    • Spread a generous layer of the maple Dijon mustard on the bottom half of each toasted bun.
    • Place the turkey patties with melted cheddar cheese on top.
    • Add optional toppings like lettuce, tomato, or onion, then place the top bun on the burger.
  • Serve and Enjoy

    • Serve the burgers immediately with a side of sweet potato fries, a crisp salad, or your favorite barbecue sides.

Notes

  • For added sweetness, drizzle a little maple syrup over the patties before assembling.
  • To make this recipe gluten-free, use gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps.
  • Store leftover cooked patties in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure the burgers are cooked to the perfect internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
