Ingredients
Scale
- 2 packages (15-count each frozen phyllo cups (30 total))
- 1 lb regular-cut bacon (any flavor/smoke preference (peppered, hickory-smoked, maple-flavored, etc.), cut in half crosswise)
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup maple syrup (pancake syrup or real maple syrup both work)
Instructions
- Prepare the oven: Set it to 350°F (175°C) and cover a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the bacon: Lay the bacon halves flat on the lined baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes until partially cooked but still flexible. Place the bacon on paper towels to absorb any excess fat. Set aside.
- Make the maple caramel sauce: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the brown sugar and maple syrup. Stir continuously until the mixture starts to bubble and the sugar dissolves. Let the mixture simmer for 2-3 minutes, thickening slightly. Remove from heat.
- Assemble the phyllo cups: Arrange the frozen phyllo cups on a baking sheet. Place a piece of partially cooked bacon inside each phyllo cup, folding if necessary to fit.
- Top with maple caramel: Spoon a small amount of the maple caramel sauce over each bacon-filled phyllo cup, making sure to coat the bacon evenly.
- Bake the bites: Return the phyllo cups to the oven and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the bacon is crispy and the caramel has slightly thickened.
- Cool and serve: Allow the Maple Caramel Bacon Crack Bites to cool slightly before serving. The bites will firm up as they cool, creating a delightful crunchy texture.
Notes
- Bacon Options: Experiment with different bacon flavors to suit your preferences.
- Prevent Soggy Cups: Avoid overfilling with caramel sauce to maintain the phyllo’s crispiness.
- Make-Ahead Tips: Cook bacon and prepare the caramel sauce ahead, then assemble and bake just before serving.
