Instructions
- Prepare the Apples:
- Wash and core the apples, then slice them into thin, fry-like sticks. Pat the slices dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture.
- Preheat:
- For oven: Preheat to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lightly grease with cooking spray.
- For air fryer: Preheat to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the Coating:
- In a shallow bowl, combine whole wheat flour, breadcrumbs, cinnamon, sugar (if using), and salt. Mix well.
- Coat the Apple Slices:
- Lightly dust apple slices with flour to help the coating stick. Dip each slice into the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to coat evenly.
- Cook:
- For oven: Arrange the coated slices in a single layer on the baking sheet. Lightly spray with cooking spray. Bake for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- For air fryer: Place the slices in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
- Serve:
- Drizzle the cooked apple fries with maple syrup or honey, if desired. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
