Description

Warm, buttery, and packed with savory ham and sharp cheddar cheese, these flaky ham & cheese buttermilk biscuits are the perfect treat for breakfast, brunch, or dinner. Their tender texture and delicious flavor make them a hit with everyone at the table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 stick (4 ounces salted butter, cold)
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese (grated)
  • 1/2 cup cooked ham (diced)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 1 teaspoon parsley (chopped and then measured)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and baking powder. Whisk until well blended.
  • Cut in Butter: Dice the cold butter into small cubes. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix it into the flour until the texture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Add Cheese and Ham: Gently fold in the grated cheddar cheese and diced ham, making sure they’re evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  • Incorporate Buttermilk: Gradually pour the buttermilk into the bowl, stirring gently until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the biscuits tender.
  • Shape Biscuits: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently pat it into a 1-inch-thick rectangle. Use a round biscuit cutter or glass to cut out biscuits. Re-roll the scraps to use all the dough.
  • Bake: Arrange the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, leaving about an inch between them. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Brush with Butter: While the biscuits are still warm, brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with chopped parsley.
  • Serve: Enjoy these biscuits warm on their own, with butter, or alongside your favorite meal.

Notes

  • To keep the biscuits extra flaky, work quickly to ensure the butter stays cold throughout the preparation process.
  • You can substitute sharp cheddar with another flavorful cheese like gouda or pepper jack.
  • Leftover biscuits can be stored in an airtight container for up to two days at room temperature or five days in the fridge.
