Description

These Delightful Mini Sandwiches are perfect forany gathering or as a light snack. Featuring layers of creamy cheese spread, sharp cheddar, savory deli ham, and fresh baby lettuce on soft bread, theyoffer a delightful combination of flavors and textures in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tablespoons cream cheese (softened)
  • 4 teaspoons mustard (use your favorite type: Dijon, yellow, or honey mustard – see Note 1)
  • 6 slices of bread (choose your preferred type: white, whole wheat, or multigrain – see Note 2)
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese (thin slices, or adjust according to taste – see Note 3)
  • 8 slices deli ham (thinly sliced – see Note 4)
  • Baby lettuce leaves (enough to cover the sandwiches – see Note 5)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Spread: In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese and mustard until well combined. This will create a flavorful, creamy spread for the sandwiches.
  2. Prepare the Bread: Lay out the slices of bread on a clean cutting board. Using a sharp knife, trim the crusts from each slice to create neat, even squares. If desired, you can also use a round cookie cutter to create round mini sandwiches.
  3. Assemble the Sandwiches: Spread a thin, even layer of the cream cheese and mustard mixture on each slice of bread. On three slices of the prepared bread, place a slice of cheddar cheese, followed by 2 slices of deli ham. Top the ham with a few baby lettuce leaves, making sure to cover the ham evenly.
  4. Top and Slice: Place the remaining bread slices on top of the lettuce, spread-side down, to complete the sandwiches. Using a sharp knife, carefully cut each sandwich into four equal parts, creating 12 mini sandwiches.
  5. Serve: Arrange the mini sandwiches on a serving platter. For an elegant presentation, you can secure each sandwich with a toothpick or garnish with a small piece of olive or cherry tomato on top. Serve immediately or cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Notes

  1. Mustard: Use your favorite type of mustard. Dijon mustard adds a bit of a kick, while honey mustard provides a touch of sweetness. Adjust the quantity to your taste.
  2. Bread: Soft, fresh bread works best for these sandwiches. White, whole wheat, or multigrain are all good options. Choose your preferred variety.
  3. Cheddar Cheese: Thin slices of cheddar work well, but you can use any type of cheese you like, such as Swiss or gouda.
  4. Deli Ham: Opt for good-quality, thinly sliced ham. You can also use turkey, chicken, or a vegetarian alternative.
  5. Baby Lettuce: Use any soft lettuce or greens like spinach or arugula for a different flavor profile.

Notes

  • Softened Cream Cheese: Make sure the cream cheese is softened to spread it easily without tearing the bread.
  • Customizable Additions: Add cucumbers, tomatoes, or even pickles for added crunch and flavor.
  • Bread Variations: Try gluten-free bread or mini slider buns for unique textures.
  • Make Ahead: Prepare up to 4 hours in advance, wrapping tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerating to keep fresh.
