Ingredients
Scale
- One 10–11 oz log of creamy goat cheese.
- 1/2 cup flour
- Pinch of salt and pepper
- Pinch of garlic powder
- 1 egg (beaten)
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or olive oil works well)
- Hot honey (for drizzling)
- Optional Garnish: Chopped parsley
Instructions
Prep the Goat Cheese:
- Place the goat cheese log in the freezer for 15-20 minutes to firm it up.
- This makes it easier to slice and helps it hold its shape during frying.
- Once chilled, slice the goat cheese into 1/2-inch thick rounds.
Set Up Breading Stations:
- In one bowl, mix the flour with a pinch of salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- In a second bowl, beat the egg.
- In a third bowl, add the panko breadcrumbs.
Bread the Goat Cheese:
- Coat each goat cheese round in the seasoned flour, shaking off any excess.
- Dip the floured cheese rounds into the beaten egg, ensuring they are fully coated.
- Finally, press the cheese rounds into the panko breadcrumbs, making sure they are evenly coated on all sides.
Fry the Goat Cheese:
- Heat about 1/4 inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- The oil should be hot enough that it sizzles when you add the goat cheese rounds, but not so hot that they burn.
- Fry the goat cheese in batches, cooking each round for 1-2 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
- Transfer the fried goat cheese to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.
Drizzle with Hot Honey:
- While the fried goat cheese is still warm, drizzle each round generously with hot honey.
- The combination of crispy, creamy, and sweet with a hint of heat is irresistible.
Garnish and Serve:
- If desired, sprinkle chopped parsley over the goat cheese for a pop of color and freshness.
- Serve immediately as an appetizer or snack with extra hot honey on the side for dipping.
Notes
- To make the dish gluten-free, substitute the flour and panko with gluten-free options.
- Use homemade hot honey by combining honey with red pepper flakes or chili powder.
